5 Good Things You Can Learn From Fad Diets
Fad diets promise you will look better, lose weight in only a few days and that you will never regain your lost weight.
Many people fall in this trap and I’m sure you tried or know someone close who tried The Cabbage Soup Diet, The Grapefruit Diet, The Dissociate Diet or The 90 Days Diet. The results are the same, almost all the time:
- you lose weight, but that is mostly water and muscle tissue;
- you feel weak because your body lacks minerals and vitamins;
- you have unexpected craves;
- your moral is low;
- you will soon regain all the weight you lost and something extra too.
Fad diets are not entirely bad, they provide good information also, all you have to do is choose it and use it.
1. Eat more fibers
All fad diets tell you to avoid fruits and vegetables with high Glycemic Index. They don’t use the same words, but they all say no to eat potatoes, rice, pasta, bread or grapes, pears, melons. Instead, vegetables low in calories and high in fibers are recommended: mushrooms, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce or cabbage. You will feel satisfied with less calories, the low GI vegetable don’t need too much processing and the vitamins are not destroyed by heat.
2. Eat soup
When it comes to soups, you don’t have to think only at the cabbage soup. It is very poor in nutrients and will not satisfy your hunger. Instead, you can be creative and make your own soups with green vegetables or light meat. Beside the nutrient it provides, the soup helps you to reach your daily water target.
3. Control your portions
“Moderation” is an important factor when it comes to weight loss. You have to educated your hunger, control your portion and provide your body with the nutrients it needs. Listen to your body, not to your brain and don’t overeat.
4. Eat good proteins and fats
Fad diets that allow meat suggest chicken or fish as main protein sources. The cholesterol level is kept at a low value and the proteins provided are slowly absorbed by the body. The only fats allowed are virgin oils used in salads and not for heat cooking. The antioxidants and vitamins are not destroyed and the monounsaturated fatty acids raise the “good” cholesterol levels.
5. Drink more water
You’re always hungry when you are on a fad diet. You can slow down your hunger by drinking lots of water, which fills your stomach, but which also hydrates your body.
If you tried fad diets before and failed in reaching your goal, it’s not too late to learn from your mistakes.
