5 Mindsets That Make Losing Weight Harder
People always say that weight loss is both a mental challenge and a physical one.
If you cannot convince yourself that a real change regarding your dietary habits and lifestyle is needed, then it would be incredibly hard for you to experience long term weight loss and health.
For years I have been the “victim” of dysfunctional and unhealthy attempts at weight loss until I realized that the main things to blame are actually some mindsets that can hinder weight loss greatly.
Always wishing
Wishing is not enough. You must act. If you keep wishing to lose weight, to look thin and fit but do nothing for this, you will make no progress for sure. You can’t just keep wishing, you also have to act in order to change your situation. Eat better and exercise regularly and remember this: wishes don’t come true by themselves. It is up to you to fulfill them.
Finite and unsustainable reasons
There may be many reasons for which you want to lose weight but did you ever analyze their depth? How real and strong is your motivation? Try to answer this question constantly because it will help you when the road to losing weight gets tough.
Your reason should be something that will last a lifetime, not just for a certain season or event or for someone else. Once that person is gone or the season or event has passed, you will be tempted to go back to your old habits, gaining back the weight you have lost.
Excuses and complaints
Losing weight can be a difficult thing, this is something I reckon. But sometimes we tend to make things harder when we make excuses for the situation we’re in. In fact, excuses make it harder for you to be honest about your situation.
Complaints just make you appear like you don’t want to take responsibility for your own wellbeing. Maybe it’s time that you rethink your strategy and mentality if all you hear from yourself are complaints and excuses. Mind is a very powerful tool, so use it wisely.
Unwilling to do the dirty work
Weight loss is not about glamour. You need to sweat, sometimes grunt and eat foods you might not be used to. Therefore, if you have decided to lose weight, you should be ready to move out your comfort zone. If you are not ready for these things, then you won’t lose the pounds that weigh your body down.
Negative thinking
A friend once told me, “You create what you think”. Negative thoughts about weight loss will definitely make it really hard for you to lose weight. Negative thinking brings fear and you can’t wake up each day fearing your food choices, your workout, and even giving up your vices. So, be positive and confident!
