Starting a new diet or trying to lose weight should always be done under medical supervision.
We are all aware of that.
But when do you know if you need to lose weight?
Until now we used to find out this by calculating our body mass index (BMI).
Even the nutritionists used this index to establish whether a person has the right body weight.
Well, it seems now that the BMI is no longer that safe. Why?
- Not all the people have the same medical background. There are (more…)

The nettle leaf is a plant specific to the cold regions of Europe and Asia.
It has a vast history, being used for hundreds of years by our ancestors as a remedy for different medical conditions.
In spite of it being known as the ‘devil’s leaf’-due to its stinging effect-this plant has lots of health benefits.
However, not everyone appreciates its taste.
Still, the nettle leafs are very rich in nutrients and poor in calories, which makes them ideal for someone who wants to lose weight and detoxify at the same time.
Among herbs, this plant is one of the richest in vitamins, minerals and (more…)

‘Eat right for your type‘ is the motto of this diet, created by Dr. Peter D’Adamo.
I must say I’ve always been quite skeptical about this diet but after doing a little bit of research I changed my mind at least partially.
Although he was criticized by many doctors and nutritionists because he doesn’t have enough scientific support to prove his theory, I must say that I have been quite intrigued by it and, like many others, I believe that his arguments might be partially realistic.
The key of this diet is the genetic heritage, which is known to influence our overall health, especially the illnesses we might suffer from. Since we (more…)

From time to time I indulge myself with something sweet, with a slice of pizza or something I know is not really healthy for my diet.
I feel great and my taste buds are simply delighted.
What follows next is not something I am really proud of.
I feel guilty even though I know it is only natural to crave for something delicious with more calories than my regular foods.
This made me wonder how I can deal with the guilt and turn it into something productive. Here are some of the techniques I came up with:
1. Stop before it becomes too much.
I think that I would feel better if I did this only from time to time. If I (more…)

I love summer.
I love that I can go for walks in the park, that I can play with my dogs outside without feeling cold, I love barbeques and virtually any type of outdoor activity specific to this season.
But there is something I don’t like especially when I am on a diet.
Everywhere I go I see people eating ice cream. Now don’t get me wrong. I love ice cream.
What I don’t love is that it has too many calories. Well, there are some diet ones in the supermarkets which claim not to have too many calories (more…)

I’ve always been a fan of jogging: it’s easy, it’s fun, it’s effective, it doesn’t cost anything-except for the equipment and a right pair of shoes- and you don’t have to go to a gym to do it.
What’s a better way to start the day than with 30 minutes of jogging in the park, enjoying the fresh air and working out at the same time?
We could say that jogging is a type of work out good not only for your body but also for you spirit.
Although I’ve always preferred jogging outside, enjoying the nature, during the cold season I go running at the gym, like most people do. I’ve heard a (more…)

I’ve talked to you in a previous article about the wonderful benefits of lentils to our diet.
I tasted them and I thought they were delicious.
Unfortunately I soon found out that most dishes that have this legume as a main ingredient have too many calories.
Well, this except for soup.
I would’ve liked to be able to eat Indian lentils with curry, but as soon as I found out that a serving has almost 500 calories, I saw in this dish something that I couldn’t afford to eat too often. So, instead of having it in an (more…)

I must confess that lentils are still new “territory” for me.
I’ve always heard people say how good they are, but I haven’ had the curiosity to try them until recently, since they didn’t look so appealing to me.
Moreover, I thought that there is only one type of lentils, the brown ones.
I was surprised to find out that they come in 5 different colors: brown, green, red, yellow and orange. The brown and green ones can be used in soups but also served as a main or side dish; the other ones dissolve quickly which is why they are used mostly in cream soups or stews.
Besides their delicious taste, another thing that convinced me to have (more…)

Fast food is the easiest and most convenient choice after a hard, long day at work.
You can find fast food restaurants or take-outs at every corner where you don’t have to wait more than 5 minutes for your order and everything tastes deliciously good.
Not to mention that a fast food menu, which usually consists of a burger, French fries and a soft drink, is cheaper than in any other restaurant that serves healthier food.
For all of these reasons, the fast food restaurants industry has turned (more…)

Although she never had serious weight issues, being an international supermodel means having to make a lot of sacrifices to maintain a perfectly fit figure.
Miranda has managed for years to keep a slender and fit look; moreover, just two months after giving birth, she returned on the catwalk looking better than ever.
Regardless of all the fame and success, being one of the Victoria’s Secret angels is not easy by far; their bodies might look dreamlike, but in the end they are people just like us, with the difference that they can’t allow themselves to look out of shape (more…)
