Cholesterol – Clearing up the Confusion

| Category: Body, Nutrition | 8 Comments

Cholesterol artery Cholesterol is not a fat. It is a waxy, fat-like substance produced by all animals, including humans. Cholesterol is needed for many bodily functions and serves to insulate nerve fibers, maintain cell walls and produce vitamin D, various hormones and digestive juices. Cholesterol is produced by the liver.

There is a difference between dietary cholesterol (the cholesterol you consume in foods) and blood cholesterol (the cholesterol in your bloodstream, also called serum cholesterol).

Dietary cholesterol is present in varying amounts in some foods (more…)

Gastric Bypass

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 2 Comments

Gastric GypassGastric Bypass Surgery is generally considered to be the best surgical procedure for the treatment of morbid obesity. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the functional portion of the stomach to a pouch the size of a golf ball and by creating a stoma, a small opening between the stomach and the intestine. This procedure is recommended only for patients with BMI above 35, just like for the intragastric balloon.

After the gastric bypass procedure, a small size of the stomach pouch causes the patient to have a sensation of fullness after eating only a small portion of food. The small stoma delays stomach emptying, making the sensation of fullness last longer. (more…)

Body Wrapping at Home

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Body wraps can aid in healing of skin problems, tone and tighten the skin, improve circulation, alleviate muscle and joint pain, treat acne, detoxify the body and help mobilize fat so it can be eliminated from the body naturally. The effect of the wrap is determined by the ingredients that you chose to use. In order to do the wrapping at home you only need a mixing bowl, heating pot, wrapping sheets and it is also helpful if you have an electric blanket.

Instructions For Body Wrapping

Your skin grows daily. There is a continual layer of dead skin lying upon the surface of the skin. This needs to be exfoliated daily. (more…)

Body Wrapping

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Body Wrapping Body wrapping is an inch loss and cellulite treatment program and don’t expect to lose weight. The body wrap is an advanced development that works on shrinking the adipose tissue of fat called cellulite that is found directly below the surface of the skin. It detoxifies your body, tightens loose tissue, exfoliates, smoothes and softens your skin. You will look and feel as though you have lost weight which can encourage you to stick to your diet and exercise programs. The treatment should be sustained by a healthy diet.

How Does the Body Wrap Work?

The concept of the Body Wrap is such that it improves those areas of your body that you want to work on the most or the areas from where is harder to get rid of the fat. Wherever your tissue is the softest and flabbiest, the “wrap” will firm, tone and reduce more than the averages. (more…)

Intragastric balloon

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Intragastric balloonThe intragastric balloon is designed to provide short–term weight loss therapy. The silicone balloon is placed endoscopically (click for the video) (through the mouth and oesophagus under sedation) and filled with liquid so it partially fills the stomach and creates a feeling of fullness. The maximum time a balloon can be left in place is 6 months, after which it must be removed.
There are two main indications for using an intragastric balloon:

  • Pre–surgery for weight loss in severely obese patients to reduce surgical risk.
  • Weight loss in obese patients who have significant health risks related to their obesity and who have failed to achieve and maintain weight loss with a supervised weight–control programme. The patient should have a BMI above 35.

Like other weight loss surgeries, the balloon is a tool and works best when you use it properly, following a low calorie diet. Surgeons usually prescribe medication to reduce your stomach acid production whilst the balloon is in place. Most of the people do not experience any complications, but you should be aware of : (more…)

Misconception About Abdominal Fat

| Category: Body, Fitness, Weight loss | 0 Comments

AbdomenI hear it all the time that you can get rid of your belly fat by working your abdominal muscles.

This is based on some belief that fat is eliminated from a part of your body if you engage the muscles underneath that fat. False!

our body decides where to put fat and from where to remove it. It’s a system that is determined mostly by your genetics, but also based on a few clever strategies:

  1. Your body stores fat in your midsection (your abdomen, hips or buttocks) because it takes less energy to carry it around. (more…)

The Omentum or the big belly

| Category: Body | 2 Comments

According to MedicineNet, the Omentum is

a sheet of fat that is covered by peritoneum. The greater omentum is attached to the bottom edge of the stomach, and hangs down in front of the intestines. Its other edge is attached to the transverse colon. The lesser omentum is attached to the top edge of the stomach, and extends to the undersurface of the liver.

In other words the omentum is just the big fat belly that looks ugly on the inside as it looks on the outside! :(

The Omentum

Its only purpose is to catch and store fat. (more…)
