Nessie| Category: Diets, Nutrition | 0 Comments

Many people fall in this trap and I’m sure you tried or know someone close who tried The Cabbage Soup Diet, The Grapefruit Diet, The Dissociate Diet or The 90 Days Diet. The results are the same, almost all the time:

  • you lose weight, but that is mostly water and muscle tissue;
  • you feel weak because your body lacks minerals and vitamins;

Business cardYesterday at my local gym, I was doing my regular exercises, minding my own business, but there was a man of about 45 years old “coaching” (I mean supervising not to hit anyone) his son of 10. OK, this is strange too, but there is something else I want to talk about.

This man was watching me and kept telling me all the time “that’s not good for you”, “you’re waisting you’re time”, “you’re pushing too much”, “don’t stay like that”, “do like this”. The bottom line was that he wanted to tell me that no matter what I do there (in the gym) I will not lose weight unless I will eat exclusively chicken sup for as long as it takes to lose all the fat. Calories and Weight Loss

Fat textureHow calories work?

I have briefly talked about how calories work and what’s the chemistry behind losing weight, but some of you asked me to try to explain it in another way.

This is simply mathematics. One kilogram (2 pounds) of fat is 7000 calories and according to the First Law of Thermodynamics, energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only converted from one form to another. This means that you have to find a way to transform the 7000 calories (more…)

EggSkip the bagel this morning. Eggs, which are full of protein, will help you feel fuller longer — a lot longer. A multicenter study of 30 overweight or obese women found that those who ate two scrambled eggs (with two slices of toast and a reduced-calorie fruit spread) consumed less for the next 36 hours than women who had a bagel breakfast of equal calories. Other research has shown that protein may also prevent spikes in blood sugar, which can lead to food cravings.

“While it’s been well-established that foods such as eggs that contain the highest quality protein help people feel full longer, we were surprised at how definite these findings were,” (more…)

Cut Down The Calories Plan

Nessie| Category: Diets, About me, Weight loss | 1 Comment

ScaleThe cut down calories intake diet (or plan) is purely mathematics! 1 kg (2 pounds) of body fat has around 7800 calories, so in order to have a healthy weight loss of 1-2 pound/week you should reduce you calorie intake with 3600-7800/week. If we divide this by 7 it will result 514-1114, but let’s not get dizzy with all those numbers and stick to 500-1000 calories deficit.

I mentioned before how to set a realistic weight loss goal, so all you have to do is:

  1. get a scale and see how much you weight; (more…)
