ExerciseAs Americans spend billions each year on diet and exercise habits, it seems only a few are exercising at all, a new study shows.

Just one in seven U.S. adults reported regular physical activity along with consuming five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Riding the Rowbike will strengthen your arms, shoulders, upper back, and core muscles. It’s a great cardio workout if you’re used to running or regular biking, but it’s much easier on your lower back, hips, knees, and feet.

It’s a fun way to lose weight, tone up, lower your blood pressure, and relieve stress. It’s also great for stretching your back, abs, and hamstrings. (more…)

Keep on Pedaling

Bike PedalI admit that I’m not a fan of the bike and I prefer sports like tae bo or rolling, but when I don’t have time for that I have to mount my bike and start pedaling. For me the inconveniences of cycling are:

  • The pain - my back hearts really quickly;
  • I get bored - it’s not fun to stare at the wall for 30 minutes;
  • I have a very busy schedule - I work 12 hours a day;
  • I always ask myself: why today? - maybe I’ll skip today and work double time tomorrow.

Avoiding injuries

Before you start cycling, you have to do 5-10 minutes of stretching and warm up. This will prevent the injuries and also reduce the DOMS effect (delayed onset muscle soreness) which is the pain or discomfort often felt 24 to 72 hours after exercising and subsides generally within 2 to 3 days. Stretching Tips

Nessie| Category: Exercise, Tips | 1 Comment

StretchingThe aim of stretching is to gently lengthen muscles before and after any form of exercise, and to improve tissue elasticity/flexibility. If practiced properly, stretching will help prevent injuries and increase athletic performance.

The following key points should be remembered while stretching:

  • Begin with gradual mobility exercises of all joints: simply rotate the wrists, bend the arm and roll your shoulders. This will allow the body’s natural lubrication (synovial fluid) to protect the surface of your bones at these joints. When you’re first starting out, you may not be able to stretch your joints very far. Don’t push it or you may end up damaging your tendons, ligaments or muscles (more…)

Cardio Exercises Equipments

Nessie| Category: Exercise, Weight loss | 1 Comment

You decided it’s time to have your own cardio equipment to workout whenever you want, but you don’t know which one to buy. I tried to describe the most common equipments so you could choose the right one for you. Here it goes!

Recumbent BikeRecumbent Bikes

These machines have a more comfortable seat with back support. If foot straps are provided, using a recumbent bike will require slightly more effort from the hamstring muscles and glutes. Most newer models of stationary bikes provide a touch grip heart rate monitor or heart rate chip that will read heart rate during exercise. Because your body weight is supported by the bike seat, more emphasis will be placed on your leg muscles, requiring you to work harder to get your heart rate up. (more…)

L-CarnitinaWhat is L-Carnitine?

L-carnitine is made in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine, and is needed to release energy from fat. It transports fatty acids into mitochondria, the powerhouses of cells. In special situations of high energy needs, such as pregnancy or intense body exercise, the need for L-carnitine can exceed the production of the body, therefore, L-carnitine is considered a “conditionally essential” nutrient. It is also known to improve the sportsmen performance and ti reduce body fat if it exceeds the body’s need.

Where is it found?

It can be naturally found in dairy and red meat, therefore, people (more…)

How to really lose abdominal fat

Nessie| Category: Exercise, Weight loss | 2 Comments

There is no food, no exercise, and no herb that will cause your body to remove fat from only one place. If you want to reduce body fat, you need to start consuming fewer calories than you body needs on a daily basis. In time, your body will start converting fat into usable energy, and fat stores will begin to vanish.

If you are a man, remember that abdominal fat is probably the last fat that will disappear from your body! First your body will remove fat from your face, arms and legs, then it will remove fat from your upper torso, your chest, upper thighs and buttocks, and lastly it will use the fat stored in your abdomen.

For women is a little easier to lose abdominal fat, because (more…)

Misconception about abdominal fat

Nessie| Category: Exercise, Body, Weight loss | 0 Comments

AbdomenI hear it all the time that you can get rid of your belly fat by working your abdominal muscles. This is based on some belief that fat is eliminated from a part of your body if you engage the muscles underneath that fat. False! Your body decides where to put fat and from where to remove it. It’s a system that is determined mostly by your genetics, but also based on a few clever strategies:

  1. Your body stores fat in your midsection (your abdomen, hips or buttocks) because it takes less energy to carry it around. (more…)
