With the Royal Wedding just around the corner, everybody would probably like to be in Will and Kate’s shoes.
Well, not exactly everybody, only just us girls!
So, I thought today we can talk about Janey Holliday and her fitness program.
Janey is the creator of the Fit for a Princess program, which focuses on training within a group and usually outside.
What surprised me about Janey was the fact that she confessed that, before starting the program, she was somebody who hated exercise. So, she (more…)

I try to walk everyday for at least an hour.
Maybe you know that one needs to walk 10,000 steps (about 5 miles) every day to stay in shape.
Is this scientifically proven? Here are the results of some recent studies I’ve read about walking.
The first one was performed by scientists from the University of Pittsburgh.
They watched for nine years the effects walking has on people. In the end, they noticed that those who walked about six miles every week (more…)

Fitness always seemed rather boring for my taste: you always do the same work-out routine, you work your muscles in the same order, you lift weights and so on.
So, I decided that I needed to find something different and still benefit from what fitness can provide me with.
Fitball fitness can be a great alternative.
This is because it is an extremely fun and efficient workout routine.
First of all, besides having even more benefits than the original one (more…)

Spring is finally here.
I’ve been waiting all winter for long power walks around the neighborhood and jumping rope in the garden.
Now I can resume outdoor training, especially after having read a new study performed by the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry.
This study referred to effects of outdoor exercise in comparison to indoor fitness training and was carried out in regard to more than 800 individuals.
It seems that the effects of exercising outdoors were all positive (more…)

I have a few friends who are preparing for running some marathons.
They are really determined and the few moments they can spare when they’re not at work are used for training as hard and as long as possible.
However, when deciding whether running for the marathon is the thing for you, take into consideration the following:
1. It can lead to heart damage
Running is good for the heart. It’s a great cardio exercise, as long as it’s done in moderation. However, strenuous physical effort – including long, (more…)

When it comes to losing weight, most people get fooled not only by diet myths but also the ones that involve fitness routines.
Most of them are wrong.
Just because your friend told you that a certain physical exercise doesn’t work, that doesn’t make it true.
What’s most likely is that he didn’t perform that exercise right, therefore impeding you to get all the benefits from it too.
What’s best for you is to try it for yourself or better yet, ask an expert in this matter. The gyms nowadays have lots of instructors who are there (more…)

We are not forever young, at least not physically.
With years we become more prone to losing muscles mass, gaining weight, especially abdominal fat in the case of women who’ve reached menopause.
Health problems also occur, mostly because people don’t work out as much as they used to when they were younger.
Sure, you don’t have the same strength but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work out at all. Don’t let age intimidate you. Lighter exercises can (more…)

The most common excuse that people use for lack of activity is the fact that they don’t have time for that.
Their schedules are too tight, they have to work at home as well, and if you also add kids to raise and a household to keep, than they definitely won’t have too much time left for themselves.
However, one thing we all have in common is the weekend.
I know most people see it as a way of relaxing or having fun. Sport can do all that for you and even more. You can exercise, stay fit and lose weight (more…)

I must tell you from the beginning and the very start of this post that I am completely puzzled.
I’ve just finished reading about two new studies which left me completely speechless.
Their conclusions are contrary to a few facts we were until now convinced are true.
I don’t know what to think about it. Tell me your thoughts on the following:
Stretching does not prevent injuries
Yes, you read right: it’s been found that people who stretch before running suffer the same amount of injuries as the ones who do not. The (more…)

There are a lot of questions when it comes to working out.
Some of them are justified, some of them are just silly and some are simply reasons for delaying daily exercises.
However, here’s one of the questions I used to ask myself or my trainers; I’m enclosing the answers I eventually received:
Does exercising on an empty stomach burn more fat than when you previously have a meal?
There are some who claim that working out after having eaten may upset your stomach. While there are others as well who say that not eating (more…)
