Most people would characterize the ideal weight as the weight you’re feeling most comfortable with.
However, I can’t say that I know that many people who actually feel comfortable with the way they look.
Most of them are dissatisfied by their body image.
Some of them have reasons and a lot of extra pounds for feeling like that, some of them don’t. That made me wonder: how much should we weigh and when should we stop dieting?
Without a doubt, I can say that nowadays we have to face a significant pressure to look as perfect as we can. All the models that we see in (more…)

There is a says that I like: we are shaped by our thoughts.
In that case, I try to think about myself as nicely as possible.
Only that sometimes, an extra bite of anything can get be moody. Sounds familiar?
Mayo Clinic preventive medicine specialist, Donald Hensrud, claims that the main reason why we feel down when dieting is because we fail to manage our weight correctly and to dose our efforts, mentally. He says it all in a book written by the Mayo Clinic staff called “Eat well. Enjoy life. Lose weight.”
Hensrud believes that if we want to start a diet, we must start it (more…)

It’s true now, it has been scientifically proven and I was right!
It is not my fault that I feel like eating sweets and junk food whenever I am depressed, when I am angry or because of my PMS syndrome.
As we’ve already talked before, our psychical state has great influence on our body too and consequently on our cravings. And according to the Commonwealth Seminars there are several reasons why we overeat in times of crises.
But besides the psychological explanations, there are valid, biological (more…)

You have a lot of healthy living plans for 2011 but you’d rather finish the Belgian candy box, first?
Well, don’t! Do not lie yourself that you are going to start next Monday!
You might take a look at this. PubMed revealed an interesting study focused on “the effects of an acute exercise bout on urges to eat chocolate, affect, and psychological and physiological responses to stress and a chocolate cue.” In other words, if taking a walk could help you minimize cravings.
How did they do it? The same source tells us: (more…)

I do not have any children, but as all women I have been thinking about getting pregnant.
I don’t know exactly when this might happen. However, I’ve been reading a lot about what is best to do while carrying a baby.
So, I recently found out that the diet we choose to eat while pregnant has a major effect on the child.
The study focusing on this matter was carried out by the University of Colorado. The results showed that what the mother eats and drinks when pregnant has a decisive impact on what the baby will eat (more…)

We only have three more weeks until the big party for the New Year’s Eve and we definitely want to look ravishing for that special moment.
If Christmas is all about family, New Year’s Eve is about parties either at a friend’s house, in a luxurious restaurant, in a club, or why not on a holiday in an exotic place.
Wherever you chose to spend the night in between years, how you look and what you’re wearing is very important. But what do we do when that gorgeous party dress that caught our eyes in a window shop doesn’t fit us (more…)

As we’ve explained in a previous article, when talking about poor digestion, this health condition is wide-spread and probably the most common one, especially during holydays.
Christmas is just around the corner and as we know, traditional foods are delicious but also heavier than what we normally eat. Therefore, our digestive systems will have to suffer and “work” harder than on a normal daily basis.
Here are a few tips to help you go through those days easier. (more…)

Do you remember the Okinawa diet? I was telling you back then that on this particular island of Japan people live longer lives than anywhere else in the world, due to their healthy life style.
Nevertheless, you should know that there are several places in the world where things go just as smooth. They were identified by Dan Buettner, an American explorer who wrote “Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zones Way”.
Apart from Okinawa, he claims that there are four other similar places in the world where people not only have the longest life expectancy, but (more…)

On site exercise facilities are not new concepts, right? They just took new meanings.
These were first used as cleaver recruitment tool for new employees and today they are regarded as means to get more out of employees, by keeping them healthy and above all, happy!
What is Google doing for its employees?
We’ve all heard Google is the best company to work for. Here’s why: all meals included healthy snacks likewise. Plus, you can bring your pet to (more…)

I’ve always thought that women usually think they’re fatter than they actually are.
I know I always consider I should cut back a few pounds, even though I could actually gain some. But it seems that this is not always the case.
Meaning, there are people who think they are slim and ok, when in fact they are not.
This is the conclusion of a study conducted by the University of Texas Medical Branchat Galveston. The results showed that 25% of overweight women do not have an accurate perception about their body weight. They (more…)
