I love eating vegetables and I usually have a serving of greens each day.
But I have never tried a green smoothie before.
I hear all over the place that these shakes are extremely healthy, prevent many diseases and help people in their fight against extra pounds.
So, I decided it was time to find a great recipe that will help me too. Here is the recipe I think is going to satisfy my curiosity and which I think is going to taste great too:
Ingredients:
- Obviously, spinach. The quantity depends on how ‘green’ you (more…)

Even though eggs are a fantastic source of proteins, vitamins and essential nutrients, some say they contain too much cholesterol to be consumed on a daily basis.
Eating eggs each morning can be half benefic and half damaging for our diet.
As mentioned in a previous post they are great as breakfast, but how can we get rid of the extra cholesterol they introduce into our body?
Well, things are not as complicated as they seem.
Instead of eating whole eggs, choose to cook your breakfast with egg whites. Here is an example of an omelet with egg (more…)

Tomatoes are so versatile, don’t you think?
It’s their high season now, so it’s worth giving them your full attention, as they provide impressive health benefits.
Here are a few ideas on how to enjoy tomatoes, in case you’re bored with your regular salad:
1. Eggplant and tomato sandwich
The main ingredients are one large eggplant, two medium tomatoes and 4 ounces of soft cheese. You also need one tablespoon of chopped basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and Dijon mustard. Slice the eggplant and place (more…)

When I look back on my routine, I am always in a hurry, trying some quick fixes for my breakfast or lunch.
Most of the times I land up eating junkies because it seems I don’t have so many healthy “quick” options, except for cereals and whole wheat bread!
Here is one quick “healthy” recipe which you can whip up in a few minutes, as long as you have soaked the grains the previous night.
This is something you can wrap in a foil and eat on your way too! (more…)

I love summer.
I love that I can go for walks in the park, that I can play with my dogs outside without feeling cold, I love barbeques and virtually any type of outdoor activity specific to this season.
But there is something I don’t like especially when I am on a diet.
Everywhere I go I see people eating ice cream. Now don’t get me wrong. I love ice cream.
What I don’t love is that it has too many calories. Well, there are some diet ones in the supermarkets which claim not to have too many calories (more…)

I’ve talked to you in a previous article about the wonderful benefits of lentils to our diet.
I tasted them and I thought they were delicious.
Unfortunately I soon found out that most dishes that have this legume as a main ingredient have too many calories.
Well, this except for soup.
I would’ve liked to be able to eat Indian lentils with curry, but as soon as I found out that a serving has almost 500 calories, I saw in this dish something that I couldn’t afford to eat too often. So, instead of having it in an (more…)

Watermelon is my favorite summer fruit by far.
Although I can buy it from supermarkets during the entire year, it’s only in the summer that I eat it, when I can find it fresh at the market.
I usually prefer eating watermelon fresh and just as it is, without any “supplements”.
Nevertheless, I’ve discovered a few interesting recipes that might turn watermelon into an actual meal:
1. Watermelon with feta: try this very easy salad – just dice the (more…)

Remember the 25 most wanted vegetables that should never miss from your diet?
Green beans were among them.
People usually think that all types of beans have the same number of calories.
So did I and always tried to avoid having them because they were too fattening.
Well, not the green ones. Besides being extremely healthy and delicious they have only 43 calories per cup and 0 grams of fat!
Don’t imagine that because they have very few calories they have no (more…)

I love eating salads especially during summer time when cooking something else seems such a burden.
It’s a light dish, recommended by most diets, it’s very healthy because of all the vitamins and nutrients you can get from it and it can be very delicious if you know how to ‘cook’ it.
In fact, it’s not a big philosophy to make a salad because you can add to it any type of vegetable you want.
I personally like the one where the main ingredient is the romaine lettuce not only because of its taste but also because it is a guarantee for a (more…)

The hot summer days are coming and we already feel the need to increase the quantity of liquids we drink each day.
This is definitely a positive thing if we consider how healthy it is to drink liquids for our diet, but also for our skin and hair.
Unfortunately many of us do not choose to drink only water and from time to time want something different, like a glass of juice or even a soda.
The next the question obviously comes up: regular or sugar free.
Well, you don’t have to worry about that if you try out these three (more…)
