Red Wine Fights Breast Cancer

| Category: Steaming diets | 0 Comments

Glass of red wineWe usually know that regular alcohol consumption elevates the risk of breat cancer but recent studies point out that red wine is an exception to this rule.

According to a research conducted by the specialists from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and published in the Journal of Women’s Health, red wine reduces breast cancer risk.

This thing is possible because of the chemicals contained in the seeds and skins of red grapes. These chemicals contribute to the diminution of estrogen levels. Also, they have the role to raise testosterone among (more…)

High-Fiber Diet Lowers Bowel Cancer Risk

| Category: Nutrition, Steaming diets | 0 Comments

Cereals fruitsI was aware that a diet rich in fibres is essential for the regulation of bowel function, but, according to a new study, fibres are the most effective method to combat bowel cancer.

Published by the British Medical Journal, the study, whose main aim was to investigate the association between intake of dietary fibre and whole grains and risk of colorectal cancer, points out that for every 10 gram increase in total dietary fibre, the risk of bowel cancer lowers by 10 per cent.

The discovery does not come as a surprise for members of the medical world since, for many years, nutritionists claimed that a high intake (more…)

Cooked Foods Give Us More Energy

| Category: Steaming diets | 0 Comments

Home cookingIn my recent search for news about nutrition I came about a very interesting title that attracted my attention – „why cooking counts”.

I started immediately to read the whole article, which is in fact the summary of a study conducted by the Harvard research institute.

The research shows that cooked meat makes us more energetic than raw meat.

Through such a discovery, the study questions the validity of the current food labeling system  and suggests that humans are adapted to make cooking beneficial for them.

Further on, the study has also compared the energetic effects of (more…)

The Body Volume Index

| Category: Body, Steaming diets | 0 Comments

Body shapeStarting a new diet or trying to lose weight should always be done under medical supervision.

We are all aware of that.

But when do you know if you need to lose weight?

Until now we used to find out this by calculating our body mass index (BMI).

Even the nutritionists used this index to establish whether a person has the right body weight.

Well, it seems now that the BMI is no longer that safe. Why?

  • Not all the people have the same medical background. There are (more…)

Supermarkets And Unhealthy Diets

| Category: Nutrition, Steaming diets | 0 Comments

SupermarketI’ll start today’s post by asking you a question: if you have a supermarket just five minutes away from where you live, and a regular market at half an hour, where do you usually shop?

Don’t lie! It’s understandable if you say you would probably go to the supermarket.

This is the world we live in – we don’t usually have the time to do what we like, so we sometimes settle for what is easier to do. On the other hand, many of you might answer that they do go to the market situated further away.

For some time, state authorities have believed that the answer is the (more…)

Fasting – Healthy Or Dangerous?

| Category: Steaming diets | 0 Comments

Fasting plateThere are many religions which favor and encourage fasting.

Some forbid only eating meat over certain periods of time, others urge you to give up any animal product, including eggs and dairy altogether.

I personally know people that claim fasting does them good, but I can’t help wondering whether the lack of nutrients isn’t too harmful.

Fasting is not always linked to religious beliefs. In fact, this word is often used in order to describe an action of depriving oneself from certain foods (more…)

Careful About Fake Fats!

| Category: Steaming diets | 0 Comments

Fat free chipsI was doing a bit of shopping yesterday at the local supermarket, and I came across a bag of chips which was labeled as “diet snack” and allegedly contained “0 fat”.

I immediately got suspicious and, when I got home, I did some research on this matter.

It appears that these snacks contain a fat substitute called olestra.

It is supposed to make food taste as savory as the “bad” chips or other snacks, but without loading you with calories which might add to your (more…)

Facts About Body Image

| Category: Body, Steaming diets | 1 Comment

Girl in the mirrorI’ve often wondered exactly how important is for me the way I look.

Of course, I think that a beautiful figure is a sign of health, meaning that the right posture, the proper exercise program and the healthy diet are elements of beauty.

Nevertheless, the opinion on what beauty means and what we are prepared to risk for it varies from woman to woman.

A recent study was conducted precisely on this matter by the University of the West of England and it focused on women studying on campuses all (more…)

Question Answered: 3 Meals A Day Or 6?

| Category: Steaming diets, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Healthy saladMany diets we’ve heard about or even tried ourselves point out that it is better to eat more meals during the same day.

These should comprise of smaller quantities of food – consequently, it would be easier either to lose weight or to stay on the right weight track.

However, I’ve recently read a study which contradicts all of the above.  It appears that there is no scientific evidence claiming that eating more meals per day is actually (more…)

| Category: Steaming diets, Strange Diets | 0 Comments

SeaweedIf you survived this Easter’s meat attack, then you’ll probably be delighted to find out a new green solution to keep you fit!

Have you ever though about the washed up on shore-seaweed as being as good as the stuff that you harvest?

Researchers at Unilever have come up with a new way to kill the hunger sensation, which involves seaweed and a lot of motivation to taste it.

So, what they basically did was to mix a fiber obtained from brown greasy seaweed which is fancy called ‘alginate’ into regular diet (more…)
