On site exercise facilities are not new concepts, right? They just took new meanings.
These were first used as cleaver recruitment tool for new employees and today they are regarded as means to get more out of employees, by keeping them healthy and above all, happy!
What is Google doing for its employees?
We’ve all heard Google is the best company to work for. Here’s why: all meals included healthy snacks likewise. Plus, you can bring your pet to (more…)

I’ve always thought that women usually think they’re fatter than they actually are.
I know I always consider I should cut back a few pounds, even though I could actually gain some. But it seems that this is not always the case.
Meaning, there are people who think they are slim and ok, when in fact they are not.
This is the conclusion of a study conducted by the University of Texas Medical Branchat Galveston. The results showed that 25% of overweight women do not have an accurate perception about their body weight. They (more…)

I love tomatoes. As soon as summer comes, I look forward to going to the market and buying fresh tomatoes.
However, during winter and late fall, I usually stop eating these wonderful vegetables. I don’t particularly like those tomatoes grown in enclosed spaces and brought in our supermarkets from far away places.
However, if you do the same thing, you should know that tomatoes are great for our health and should not be avoided. And if you can’t have them fresh, why not drink some tomato juice? (more…)

Sometimes eating habits work in mysterious ways for me. For example whenever I’m sad, or tired or I’m just having a bad day I feel like barging in the fridge and engorging everything that comes to my way. Other times I feel like eating all the sugar in the world. This is me and probably others like me.
There is also the other side of the coin, people who forget about eating whenever they’re sad. Now I must confess that I do not understand them, but there is a psychological explanation for (more…)

When it comes to lose weight, women would try anything. My question is: would you make an acupuncture appointment?
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture comes from the Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is not a wonder therapy, but more like a mind, spirit and body experience. Surprisingly, (more…)

There seems to be a paradox nowadays concerning losing weight and being healthy. Like me, you’ve probably wondered at least once why there is no solution to solving the problem of obesity. So many discoveries have been made in the medical field, that this issue should have been handled a long time ago.
Well I think we are at least on the right path. Apparently there is a gene, or at least a mutation of a gene that is responsible for weight problems.
According to William J. Cromie, who wrote about the conclusions (more…)

I tend to divide dieters in two categories: the average wage active dieters, who constantly work out, sweat, and feel confident and sexy about their looks and ‘emergency only’ dieters- rich couch potatoes, always discouraged, who love expensive royal treatments without any physical effort at all.
For the second category of dieters, liposuction is already an overrated, risky and painful experience. Experts and already addicted clients talk about recommend this new (more…)

I met last week one of my high school classmates. I noticed he was wearing this very discreet and elegant gadget pinned to his suit collar. I couldn’t help but ask what was it. It didn’t seem to be a hands free device, so I thought maybe it’s one of those new mp3 players.
But no, it wasn’t any of the above. It was Fitbit Tracker, a device that keeps track not only of your fitness schedule, but also your sleep time. It’s wireless and it uses a 3D motion sensor in order to gather information and supply it to you. (more…)

Have you ever felt like no matter how much you try, how many diets you take on and how much you strain yourself, it just isn’t enough? You just feel helpless because your own body seems to work against you. Well, you might be right about that! A friend of mine had some tests done by her endocrinologist and, guess what, there are hormones produced by our own bodies that sabotage our trials of losing weight and staying fit. Everybody, meet Leptin and Ghrelin!
What is Leptin?
First of all, you need to know that leptin is a hormone produced by our fat cells. Secondly, it is a hormone that takes care of your energy intake (more…)

I used to have the most intense sugar cravings. I was addicted to sugar. I did not know exactly the amount I was consuming, as sugar was in so many foods and under a variety of awkward names, like lactose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, dextrose, fructose, molasses, corn syrup, maple syrup, corn sweetener or juice concentrate.
Sweets are like Cinderella’s shiny perfect apples. Did you know that sugar ages your skin, completely wrecks your energy level, affects your immune system and destroys your body’s normal appetite control mechanisms?
Princeton University scientist Bart Hoebel demonstrated that sugar (more…)
