I’m always on the look for new diet strategies, snack ideas or tricks on how to improve my eating habits.
Being always fit and slim is tough and who knows that better than celebrities who are always in the spotlight?
I’ve recently discovered that more and more celebs use different tricks to tame their hunger or cravings:
- they wash their teeth before eating,
- they drink a glass of water before each meal and
- some of them chew sugar-free gum when they feel like having (more…)

I think all of us have realized until now that, no matter how much one works out, he/she will never look as a certain actor, actress or other star.
For instance, if you have wide hips, you will never look like Keira Knightley. However, you might come close to Selma Hayek’s body shape.
Where I’m trying to get is that we all have a certain body shape which cannot be tricked into being something else.
This body shape is determined on where fat and muscle is mostly stored – for instance, on our hips, or maybe on our upper back. Genetics play (more…)

Eating disorders have become ones of the most common health issues worldwide.
Statistics show that 10 million females and 1 million males suffer from eating disorders only in the US.
Usually food related disorders, regardless of their type, are caused by mental problems, such as anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder.
The most common disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, which are also the most dangerous ones. If they are left untreated, they could turn out to be fatal. Medical studies have shown lately that (more…)

We’ve mentioned more than once in our posts the wonderful effects antioxidants have on our body.
The most common known effects refer to preventing cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Without doubt, antioxidants should not lack from our diet.
Nevertheless, as with everything else, we should not get carried away and think antioxidants are the Holy Grail of diets. Careful about the myths they carry around:
Antioxidants should be used to get rid of all free radicals
This is false. Free radicals damage our organism only when they are (more…)

Although summer is here and everyone is making plans or getting ready for the holiday, most of us still work, which means he we have to settle for having fun during the weekends.
Still, driving somewhere during the weekend can be more tiring than fun, so, the best you can do is to make plans in town.
A good plan would be having a barbecue.
Personally, I’ve always considered the barbecue more of a drudgery than a way of having fun, especially for the person in charge of carrying all the (more…)

I was telling you the other day about the proper way to store food.
Well, I’m continuing on the same note.
Did you know there is a drill on how to thoroughly wash fruit and vegetables?
Here’s the way it should be done:
- first, make sure your own hands are clean – wash them for at least twenty seconds before starting on anything; use soap and hot water;
- use cool water when washing fruit or vegetables; it appears tha (more…)

It is said that we eat with our eyes before we take the first bite.
A plate filled with colorful fruits and vegetables is not only a sight to behold, but research continues to show they keep our hearts, minds and eyes healthy.
So, you can almost say to assess the nutritive value of your food, just count the colors in your meal!
Fruits & Vegetables add variety and colors, textures, shape and flavors to the menu. They are naturally cholesterol-free, low in fat and calories, and high in fiber, vitamins, minerals and other phytochemicals (plant chemicals) (more…)

I’m sure that you don’t go every day to the market or to the supermarket in order to buy (very) fresh food.
Only few of us are lucky and live next to such places and consequently can afford buying fresh stuff every day on their way back from work.
For the rest of us, there is another matter following the choice of the proper and healthiest foods: storing them.
We usually don’t give much attention to this, so let’s see some guidelines:
1. Using the pantry
If you have a pantry, make sure it’s dry and cool enough, 70 degrees (more…)

When I was in school, I would obviously have a holiday during July.
Consequently, I was usually at home and could watch the Tour of France on TV.
I liked the fact that you could see most of France’s beautiful sceneries.
But I was also baffled by the strength and resistance of the cyclists.
I’ve recently saw an interview on this matter with people directly engaged in this sports event. They shared some secrets that make the cyclists (more…)
