Cardio Exercises Equipments

| Category: Fitness, Weight loss | 2 Comments

You decided it’s time to have your own cardio equipment to workout whenever you want, but you don’t know which one to buy. I tried to describe the most common equipments so you could choose the right one for you. Here it goes!

Recumbent BikeRecumbent Bikes

These machines have a more comfortable seat with back support. If foot straps are provided, using a recumbent bike will require slightly more effort from the hamstring muscles and glutes. Most newer models of stationary bikes provide a touch grip heart rate monitor or heart rate chip that will read heart rate during exercise. Because your body weight is supported by the bike seat, more emphasis will be placed on your leg muscles, requiring you to work harder to get your heart rate up. (more…)

Fibers, a Form of Carbohydrates

| Category: Nutrition, Weight loss | 6 Comments

Vegetable Fibers

Dietary fiber is the indigestible parts of plant cells.

Although it is a carbohydrate, fiber does not convert to glucose and thus does not raise your blood-sugar level the way carbohydrates typically do.

In fact, fiber actually slows the entry of glucose into the bloodstream. This in turn reduces the blood-sugar spikes that cause insulin production and encourage the body to produce and store body fat.

And by slowing down food’s transit time in the digestive tract, fiber helps you feel full longer, resulting in fewer food cravings.

Fiber also:

  • binds to cholesterol in the intestine, helping you get rid  of it.
  • absorbs and then eliminates bacterial toxins in the intestine.
  • reduces the likelihood of getting diverticulitis.
  • speeds the excretion of gallstone-promoting bile. (more…)

Introduction to Atkins Diet

| Category: Diets, Weight loss | 5 Comments

Dr. Atkins DietYou always thought that to lose weight and feel good you have to adopt a low-fat diet? If so, the principles and approach of the Dr.Atkin’s New Diet Revolution, Revised might just not sound right for you. Since Dr. Atkins published his book, new scientific researches show that a controlled carbohydrate nutritional approach is better for you-and for your body-than a lowfat, high-carbohydrate nutritional approach.

Many people think that only one thing matters: how many calories you take in and use up. It’s not that simple. When you follow a controlled carbohydrate approach, you get what Dr. Atkins calls a “metabolic advantage”. When you control carbohydrate consumption sufficiently, your body will switch from burning glucose derived from carbohydrate to burning primarily fat for energy. The metabolic advantage is that burning fat takes more energy so you expend more calories. And if you eat fewer calories-as many Atkins people do because their appetite is usually (more…)

L-CarnitinaWhat is L-Carnitine?

L-carnitine is made in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine, and is needed to release energy from fat. It transports fatty acids into mitochondria, the powerhouses of cells. In special situations of high energy needs, such as pregnancy or intense body exercise, the need for L-carnitine can exceed the production of the body, therefore, L-carnitine is considered a “conditionally essential” nutrient. It is also known to improve the sportsmen performance and ti reduce body fat if it exceeds the body’s need.

Where is it found?

It can be naturally found in dairy and red meat, therefore, people (more…)

Body Wrapping at Home

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Body wraps can aid in healing of skin problems, tone and tighten the skin, improve circulation, alleviate muscle and joint pain, treat acne, detoxify the body and help mobilize fat so it can be eliminated from the body naturally. The effect of the wrap is determined by the ingredients that you chose to use. In order to do the wrapping at home you only need a mixing bowl, heating pot, wrapping sheets and it is also helpful if you have an electric blanket.

Instructions For Body Wrapping

Your skin grows daily. There is a continual layer of dead skin lying upon the surface of the skin. This needs to be exfoliated daily. (more…)

Body Wrapping

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Body Wrapping Body wrapping is an inch loss and cellulite treatment program and don’t expect to lose weight. The body wrap is an advanced development that works on shrinking the adipose tissue of fat called cellulite that is found directly below the surface of the skin. It detoxifies your body, tightens loose tissue, exfoliates, smoothes and softens your skin. You will look and feel as though you have lost weight which can encourage you to stick to your diet and exercise programs. The treatment should be sustained by a healthy diet.

How Does the Body Wrap Work?

The concept of the Body Wrap is such that it improves those areas of your body that you want to work on the most or the areas from where is harder to get rid of the fat. Wherever your tissue is the softest and flabbiest, the “wrap” will firm, tone and reduce more than the averages. (more…)

The flavor spray diet

| Category: Motivation, Nutrition, Recipes, Strange Diets, Weight loss | 0 Comments

The Flavour SprayAt first, when I saw The Flavor Spray I said “this is hilarious!”, but the more I think about it, the more I like it! The flavor spray “contain zero calories, zero fat, zero cholesterol, zero carbohydrates and FDA-approved Food flavoring” how they say.

When I’m on diet I always crave for all the bad aliments and this could be the key to overcome them, but I wonder how would a green salad with chocolate flavor taste like? It’s great that you could add smoked bacon flavor on steamed vegetables and stay thin, but I think is hard to find a basic aliment to spray on the desert flavors and still have low calories.

I think it’s worth trying it though, as it costs only $5.95/spray of 2.0fl.oz./60ml and you can get a discount for special packages. Unfortunately, they have limited countries they deliver.

Intragastric balloon

| Category: Body, Weight loss | 1 Comment

Intragastric balloonThe intragastric balloon is designed to provide short–term weight loss therapy. The silicone balloon is placed endoscopically (click for the video) (through the mouth and oesophagus under sedation) and filled with liquid so it partially fills the stomach and creates a feeling of fullness. The maximum time a balloon can be left in place is 6 months, after which it must be removed.
There are two main indications for using an intragastric balloon:

  • Pre–surgery for weight loss in severely obese patients to reduce surgical risk.
  • Weight loss in obese patients who have significant health risks related to their obesity and who have failed to achieve and maintain weight loss with a supervised weight–control programme. The patient should have a BMI above 35.

Like other weight loss surgeries, the balloon is a tool and works best when you use it properly, following a low calorie diet. Surgeons usually prescribe medication to reduce your stomach acid production whilst the balloon is in place. Most of the people do not experience any complications, but you should be aware of : (more…)
