Don’t Lose Weight Too Fast!
I’m sure that when you’re thinking about losing weight, you also think that it had better happen fast!
And I know that adds promoted by all sorts of companies telling you that using certain pills or diets or programs will help you lose 10, 15 or 20 pounds a month seem very appealing.
But how much is too much?
I mean, how many pounds can you afford to lose in a single month without your health being affected?
Celebrities that lost weight
We all know it’s possible to lose a lot of pounds in a short period of time. We’ve seen a lot of actors doing it. Beyonce admitted to having lost 20 pounds for her role as Deena Jones in “Dream Girls”. Tom Hanks also lost a lot of weight for “Castaway” – about 55 pounds, as well as Christian Bale for “The Machinist” – he set the record: minus 70 pounds for his role as an industrial worker!
Celebrities that gained weight
Of course, this goes both ways. Russell Crowe had to gain some 60 pounds for playing a CIA agent in “Body of Lies”. While George Clooney engaged on a heavy diet to put on some meat for his role in “Syriana”. Nevertheless, they all got back to their regular sizes immediately.
Side effects of loseing weight too fast
But how healthy is this lifestyle? I mean, for us, not for actors or entertainers, who probably don’t answer to the same rules as we do (I’m just being a bit ironic).
First of all, you should know that losing too much weight too fast may have unwanted side effects. These include:
- loose skin
- metabolism issues
- gaining back more weight in a short period of time, known as the yo-yo effect.
What to do to avoid such complications?
Well, try to stick to losing less than 2 pounds per week. Going above this number may result in you losing muscle mass and water weight. However, fat remains on your body and it will most likely backfire. On the other hand, losing weight in stages, though it may seem like a never ending process, is healthier.
By gradually losing only 1 to 2 pounds each week you will maintain your ideal weight longer. Meaning, you won’t gain weight after you finish dieting.
This can be done by making sure your calorie intake is not below the minimum recommended. So, if you’re dieting and cutting back on eating, be careful not to go below these numbers. Otherwise, you will feel weak and jumpy.
One last advice: go see a doctor before embarking on an extreme diet. A specialist will certainly make you realize the dangers of losing weight too fast.
