Eating Out On A Diet
I just love going out. It doesn’t matter if I go to a club, to a coffee place or to a restaurant. It is my favorite way of spending my free time. I can’t really say that I have dozens of friends, but those that I see on a regular basis are really close ones.
This is why giving up on going out during a diet seems like a punishment. I mean it is impossible to eat out and still lose weight. Or at least I thought so until I saw one of my favorite TV shows, Dr. Oz. He opened my eyes with some great tips that I have to share with you in case you missed the show.
- Tip no. 1: Order foods that have their ingredients cut into big pieces. This way you can really see what you are eating. I think this is the greatest tip ever. I often go to a Chinese restaurant close to work. And I almost always order chicken. Well I was convinced that I ordered something really healthy. In fact a portion of Com Pow Chicken has 1620 calories. I had absolutely no idea it was so rich in calories.
- Tip no. 2: Avoid ordering the house specialty. According to Dr. Oz these dishes are made from ingredients that didn’t get to be used for the preparation of the other dishes. This means that they may not be as fresh as we would’ve expected.
- Tip no. 3: Choose restaurants that have menus markups. If you see the number of calories per meal, you will be able to make the best choice. Sometimes even if you have something like lean meat, or vegetables, adding a sauce and some other ingredients may double the number of calories.
- Tip no. 4: Avoid eating fish or seafood unless you are sure it is fresh. You probably know that it is really healthy to eat fish and fish fat is probably one of the few fats that are actually indicated in a diet. So going back to Dr. Oz, he said that fish should be looked as seasonal, like in the case of vegetables. Furthermore seafood poisoning is one of the worse possible.
Fortunately my eyes have been opened now to the secrets and tricks of the restaurant. This means I don’t have to give up going out to eat, but to select more careful what I choose and where I choose to eat.
