Fast Food – A Possible Cause Of Depression

Green pizzaIn a world where speed is everything, fast food has become a point of reference in term of daily menu.

Unfortunately, more and more people consider it to be the perfect solution.

There are many excuses we hear around: there is no time for cooking, fast food costs less, the taste is not that bad and so on and so forth.

The truth is that we sometimes like to find excuses instead of finding real solutions.

On one hand, the number of consumers grows with every day and, on the other, scientists try to offer more and more reasons why fast food is not healthy.

One of the recent studies sustains that fast food doesn’t influence just our body but also our mind. From the first conclusions, it seems that these products induce depression.

The study, published in Public Health Nutrition, concludes that bad eating habits may lead to depression. In this category of dangerous foods, are included products such as pizza, hot dogs or hamburgers but also bake goods such as croissants or doughnuts. Research was conducted at the University of Las Palmas De Gran Canaria.

A regular consumption of this type of food increases the risk of depression. Approximately 9.000 people participated at the study. They were monitored for a period of 6 months.

The conclusions were rather interesting: almost 500 people ended up taking antidepressants and suffering from this illness. With a menu based on fast food products, the probabilities that a person will suffer from such an illness is higher with almost 50%.

This is not the only study that reveals such worrying facts related to the consumption of junk food. So, processed food can damage not only your waistline but also your mental health.

Another reason to stay away from these kinds of products….salads sound better and better!
