Have Fun With Green Peas

Green PeasWe’ve recently seen the wonderful effect green beans have on us, if consumed properly.

However, if you’re frequently going to the market these days (I know I do – I just love the way it looks right now: full of green vegetables and colorful fruit), then don’t miss out on green peas.

Green peas are packed with healthy nutrients which we should ingest daily. Let’s have a look:

1. Loads of vitamins

Green peas contain large amounts of vitamin K. This vitamin plays an important role in the development of our bones, as several studies have showed over time. Moreover, green peas contain vitamin C, A and some Bs.

2. Antioxidant effect

This vegetable contains several types of antioxidants, some of which we’ve already discussed about: flavonoids and carotenoids. So, eating peas leads to protecting our body from the harmful effect free radicals may have on us. Moreover, green peas contain coumestrol, an organic compound known for its positive effects with respect to stomach cancer.

3. Low calorie content and low fat

Eating green peas won’t affect your slim figure, as a serving of about 150 grams contains about 120 calories. On the other hand, they don’t contain much fat, but there is a fair amount of omega 3 which will do good to your organism. And another thing: green peas provide the fiber you need for the proper digestion of your meals.

4. The “green” effect of green peas

Finally, if you’re an environmentalist, you should know that growing green peas in your yard has wonderful effects on the soil. They prevent the erosion of the latter, while, at the same time, filling it with natural nutrients which may help you get rid of artificial fertilizers.

These are all the reasons I need in order to get the most out of this season and make sure I’ve eaten as much fresh green peas as (healthily) possible.
