I find it difficult to go to parties when I am on a diet.
Not that I don’t like them, because I love parties, but the temptations are high on these occasions.
We’ve already talked about how to avoid eating high calorie foods when we go out, but what can we do when we cannot choose the menu?
I am going to share with you some tricks that I find very helpful and that worked in my case. Maybe these can be of help for you too.
1. Choose to attend the social event for the fun and not for the food.
I know this is difficult to do, but if you spend your time socializing and talking to people who you do not get the chance to see on a daily basis, you might forget about all the temptations on your plate.
2. Eat very light before you go to the event.
If it is a wedding or a birthday and you know you won’t be able to resist the delicious foods, at least make sure you do not exceed the calories intake for the day. Moreover, you can choose a light diet for the next day too.
Workout harder next time you go to the gym. Do whatever it takes not to feel guilty afterwards, because you know how guilt might cause additional problems that can lead to overeating.
3. Choose one of the two
Either eat a little bit of everything, or concentrate more on the healthy options from the menu. Both tricks work great. Just make sure you decide which one you want to approach because a combination of the two can be dangerous for your diet.
4. Don’t eat unless you know what you are eating.
There are many dishes that unless you taste them you cannot know what ingredients they contain. This is because they are covered by unhealthy things like dressings, fat cheese sauces or cream.
5. Go either for the food or for the drinks.
If you decide to taste all the dishes, choose water. In fact, drink plenty of it. Avoid hyper caloric drinks that contain alcohol. These might harm your diet more than the food. Moreover, if you drink lots of water you might not be very hungry in the end.
6. Take your time.
Eat slowly and enjoy every bite. You know the brain needs time to gather the information from the rest of the body that it has had enough food. So, don’t rush into eating even if everything tastes great.
7. Reward yourself.
If you managed to resist the temptations, you can taste the desert. After all, you are hero!
I hope all these can work for you too. Before you go to the party choose your strategy and adapt it on the way if it is necessary. But never skip parties just because you are on a diet. They can actually help you boost your mood and burn calories if you dance.
