Look Fit Through Right Posture

Straight BackOn my way to the office, I ran into this truly inspirational article about how to lose weight through good posture.

According to this Canadian chiropractor, James Emmett, people “who improve their posture see positive results, not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally.”

Emmet also says that we all go through stressed moments in our lives but he also mentions that:

“Family, work or just general physical body stresses all have a way of affecting posture.”

And trust me: when I saw my own reflection in the subway panels, I realized this guy might have some point. I mean, have you ever stopped for a second to take a look at yourself while you are in a hurry?

I bet you also saw a tensed person, who desperately needs some time off and a lifestyle improvement.

We go to the gym, we eat healthy, but what can we do to scan our posture and look fit? Well, we should start with being more relaxed about everything that goes on in our lives. I know, it sounds much easier than it is. But it’s ok to try it at least for a day.

Then, we can check our posture from time to time. Remove your shoes, place your back against the wall and analyze the curves your body makes against it. If your back makes unusual curves, you need a correction.

Another easy thing we can do to at work, at home, or while asleep: avoid the posture pitfalls.

Emmet claims that normal things like sitting incorrectly or placing the office items too next to you lead to tensed muscles and body, also staying too many hours in the same position can give you terrible back pains.

While at home, a lot of household activity done with an already tensed body can worsen situation even more. And did you know that sleeping without proper neck support or on your stomach is not recommended?

So, what can be done to look great, in shape and have a great posture?

  1. Take breaks. Take Emmett’s advice and take a 30-second break a few times a day. “Stand up, bring your head back, bring your arms back, and work the muscles of the back. All of a sudden everything opens up and the concentration returns.”
  2. Breathe correctly! “Once you breathe through the belly as opposed to the chest, it relaxes everything and the low back, neck and shoulders release.”
  3. Enroll in a posture program! Ask your doctor about a chiropractor in his clinic. You can also DVDs or other interactive material to help you do it in your own home.

Don’t forget! Having a good posture makes you look confident and much better and that can be an excellent motivator in your diet program. Stop being tensed and start looking great!
