Music And Fitness

Fitness musicHave you ever wondered why you like working out while listening to music?

Me, whenever I’m jumping rope or walking from one place to another, I’m always carrying my iPod with me and listening my favorite tracks.

Of course, one of the reasons I do this is because I don’t have the time to listen to the latest albums during other times of day.

Nevertheless, I looked a little bit into this matter and I was surprised to find that music actually does play a role in our workouts.

  • First of all, music helps us focus on other things than, say, pain you might be feeling in your joints or muscles, or fatigue; you start singing together with your favorite star and thus you forget about exhaustion and other types of discomfort caused by exercise.
  • I’m sure you’ve already noticed that when you’re listening to energetic songs your workout boosts and you feel like nothing can stop you. So, music influences your performance. On the other hand, if you need relaxation, some slow, soft music will do the trick.
  • However, if you like working on your muscles by lifting weights, then don’t do this while listening to light tunes. It’s been scientifically proven that it’s better not to listen to anything at all than to listen to smooth music. That’s because this type of songs actually diminishes muscle strength.
  • Music determines you to do regular exercise. Why? The prospect of listening to the music you love makes you turn to exercise more often. You feel motivated to start your workout because you look forward to listening to your favorite artist.

Nevertheless, take into consideration the conclusions of a recent study carried out by the University of Alberta. It seems that most people who workout in gyms are more prone to turning the volume up in their headphones.

This caused damage to the inner ear and affected their hearing. So, if you’re bothered by background noise, don’t turn the volume to the maximum; instead, get some headphones that act as seals for the ears and decrease outside interferences.
