“The Ring” is an unusual fruit bowl made of porcelain designed by Joung Myung Lee from Germany. It is not placed on a dining table, but hangs on the wall. The concept is between art and design. Just hang it on an accessible wall and fill the bowl with your favorite fruits.
The openings on the top and bottom will help you reach the fruit, while the openings on the sides will help you know the level of fruits remaining in the bowl. The best part about this fruit bowl is that it helps you save a lot of space, especially if you have a small kitchen like I do.
The ring is an useful design object, shape and openings are a new and (more…)

About 2 months ago I found out that snacking was one of the important reasons I was not losing weight at a normal rate, even though I was on diet. I was very frustrated because I though my diet was ok, so there must be something wrong with my metabolism. It turned out I was snacking for about 500 calories/day. This is almost 1/2 of my daily calorie intake while being on a diet. Since I started the cut down calorie plan I’m very careful with what I eat and now I can see the difference.
Here is what you can do to avoid snacking:
- be prepared: Don’t let a snack attack take you by surprise (more…)

Are you trying to lose weight this year, or at least to cut back on snacking? Do you find yourself too often in the kitchen checking “what’s new” in the fridge or in the cupboard? One easy way to stay away from the kitchen is to keep yourself busy.
Finding things to do outside the house or moving in the office during work hours will keep you from getting bored and will hopefully prevent you from “checking” the fridge too often.
However, for a little bit of extra motivation, you might want to consider a little help from your diet friend: The Diet Piggy. It is a small plastic reminder (more…)

Can chocolate really protect your heart (like many studies show) and fit into a weight-loss program? Well, yes, but not all chocolate is the same.
If you’re one of the dieters that cannot live without chocolate, go for the purest dark chocolate you can find. That’s the kind loaded with flavonoids — antioxidant chemicals that help prevent cell damage, reduce clot formation and improve blood sugar levels. The cacao plant, which is what chocolate is made from, contains the same antioxidants — including catechins and phenols — found in red wine, apples, onions and grapes. Stay away from the milk chocolate or the chocolate with stuffing. This types of chocolate have more calories than the dark one.

What is a fad diet?
There is a lot of misinformation when it comes to nutrition and diets. A fad diet is supposed and promoted to improve health, but could have the opposite results if it is nutritionally unbalanced. You need to be careful, because fad diets can be harmful to your health and to your wallet.
Fad diets may:
- Promote quick weight loss or make unrealistic promises.
- Suggest special products or require special dietary supplements.
- Require certain foods to be eaten at a particular times of the day. (more…)

Hannah Downie, 17, is seriously underweight with less than 6 stone (38 kg), but despite the severity of her condition, doctors are unable to help her because of a lack of services in Scotland.
Faced with the prospect of a daughter who refuses to eat, Barbara Downie, Hannah’s mother, was told by doctors to treat the girl at home.
“I’ve run out of hope,” the mother-of-five said yesterday. “Hannah doesn’t want to eat. She’s admitted she would happily starve herself to death. She needs proper medical help but she’s not getting it. “The NHS doesn’t have enough beds and they’re dragging their heels about getting her into a private clinic.”
Her mother said she noticed a gradual change in her behaviour as she became more quiet and self-conscious. Her weight has now fallen to (more…)

I noticed that people found my True or False post from a few weeks ago to be useful and some of the comments even asked for a part 2
. So here it is Part 2, split into 2 categories.
False facts:
- Grapefruit burns body fat – Grapefruit is a great fruit, with 39 calories and 0 g fat for 1/2 fruit, but it does not burn fat. No such food has yet been discovered.
- All tuna cans have the same calories – Tuna canned in water has up to 160 fewer calories per serving than the oil-packed variety.
- Bananas are fattening – Let’s take 1 medium apple with 72 calories, 1 medium orange with 62 calories and 1 medium banana with 100 calories. Now tell me how fat can a banana make you? (more…)
