Plain water for fighting diabetes

Drinking water2 liters of plain water a day…this is what we are recommended, isn’t it?

Dehydration is the enemy and it should be kept away.

Plain water doesn’t have any calories and it makes sure that your body is hydrated enough to function at its best.

Not to mention that water will be a good friend during fitness sessions thus helping you to lose weight.

Recent studies have showed that drinking plain water helps women to avoid diabetes. The research is signed by specialists from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Basically, choosing plain water over any other type of sweet beverage will keep women away from diabetes. However, this doesn’t mean that by adding plain water to a glass of juice, the same result will be obtained.

The American study, conducted by Dr. Hu, included 83,000 women, observed for a period of 12 years. The team of researchers analyzed their drinking habits and surveyed the cases of women from this group who developed diabetes during this period of time.

The risk of diabetes was lower with 7-8 % for the women who drank plain water instead of sweet juices. Apparently, fruit juice contains the same amount of calories as any other soft drink.

Diabetes is one of the most (unfortunately!) ‘popular’ diseases in the world at the moment. Even though the percentages are not that high, they are still important considering the growing number of women affected by this illness every year.

Also, researchers recommend that we replace carbonated beverages with tea or coffee. Of course, coffee and tea should be unsweetened. One of the central points of the study is to underline that fruit juice doesn’t represent the best solution for replacing soft drinks.

So, as you can see, you have a reason more to drink a lot of water every day. It’s not only hydrating but also healthy. The other conclusion should also be noted: sweet drinks are not the answer!
