Running Tips

Running track I run about 3 miles, 3 mornings a week. I always wear my iPodwhen I jog. Loud, high-energy music gets me in the mood to exercise. My body learnt to control my breathing by the number of beats in a song.

One morning, when I jogged without it, my running was desynchronized, the air was pumped out of my lungs, I ran out of breath quickly and I panicked. I had to analize the entire jogging experience.

I started with checking out my jogging outfit. I was wearing professional running shoes; I had my shoes laced, no keys, no iPodwire, and no distraction of any kind. Here are some tips you should also consider before becoming a jogger:

  1. Hydrate yourself! Do it before running. You should wait at least half an hour before you begin your workout, or else, you will feel like a running bottle.
  2. Always breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Breathing through your nose helps your body to take deeper breaths, to relax and to keep going for a longer path.
  3. Try pacing your breathing. Breathe in for four steps and breathe out four steps. Keep your breathing focused.
  4. Use your stomach. Push your diaphragm and expand your stomach as well. This will help your body get plenty of air and regain energy.
  5. Check your exertion scale. Note your workout. If it is above eight, you might be running too fast. This helps you dose your effort, as you go and prevents accidents.
  6. Hire a pro to do all the thinking for you. There is no doubt a couch can help you breath easier and correctly. Try an audio trainer. They are cheaper, less annoying and storable in case you might want to help a friend in need.
  7. Imagine sceneries. It is great to run along an exotic forests or the blue ocean at sunset. Let your brain do the magic.

Remember: you also need to be aware of your surroundings. That means traffic, dogs, other runners, and strangers. Use the silence when you jog to clear your mind and ease your stress.
