The Atkins Diet - The Rules of Induction
I’m already in my second day of The Atkins Diet and everything is ok. I had my blood tests 1 month ago, I take mineral supplements, antioxidants, fibers supplements and an Omega-3 fatty acid complex. I feel good, I’m not hungry and I am satisfied with my meals.
I can see now that I eat less than I used to, so I will lose weight from eating less calories also.
If you are thinking about starting Atkins too, you should know the basics of The Induction Phase:
- Eat three regular-size meals a day or four or five smaller meals.
- Eat liberally of combinations of fat and protein in the form of poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs and red meat, as well as of pure, natural fat in the form of butter, mayonnaise, olive oil, safflower, sunflower and other vegetable oils (preferably expeller-pressed or cold-pressed).
- Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three cups-loosely packed-of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables.
- Eat absolutely no fruit, bread, pasta, grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter.
- Do not eat nuts or seeds in the first two weeks.
- Adjust the quantity you eat to suit your appetite, especially as it decreases. When hungry, eat the amount that makes you feel satisfied but not stuffed.
- Don’t assume any food is low in carbohydrate-instead read labels!
- Avoid coffee, tea and soft drinks that contain caffeine.
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day to hydrate your body, avoid constipation and flush out the by-products of burning fat.
My menu
The menu cannot vary that much with the Atkins method, so I will only write one day menu until there are any significant changes to it.
Breakfast:
- an omelette: 2 eggs, 1 medium slice of ham and one hand of mushrooms
- a decaf coffee
Lunch:
- 300g fried chicken breast
- 10g of fat cheese
Dinner:
- 50g fat French cheese
- 100g pressed bacon
