Top 5 Excuses For Not Bicycling To Work

Bicycles in AmsterdamI bet that some of you are already thinking at the summer and the long days at the beach that will come in a couple of months.

What are you going to do about the flabby belly and the undefined leg muscles?

A convenient way to exercise, save some money and be environment friendly is commuting by bike.

I know there are a lot of excuses not to do it, but there are solutions for all. Here are just a few of my ‘excuses‘ and how I overcome them.

1. I’ll get sweaty

Yyou don’t want to get to work smelly and sweaty. What would your colleagues say about it? Would they still want to have lunch with you? If you don’t have a shower at work, the solution would be to have a slow pace on your way to work.

There’s no race! Enjoy the morning fresh air, listen to some music and give yourself time to cool down before getting in the office.

Before going to your desk, freshen up with wipes and change your clothes.

2. It’s too far away

You don’t have to get all the way to work just bicycling. Take the car up to a convenient place and then switch to your bike.

3. I don’t have a parking place

Remember: a bike is easier to park than a car. If you don’t have a special place to park your bike, just secure the bike in a visible, crowded place. Thieves don’t like visible places.

4. It’s not safe

Wear reflecting cloths and a special bicycle helmet. If you don’t have reflecting cloths, you can stick reflecting tape to your bike and shoes.

5. I can’t carry anything to work

I usually carry my lunch box and my laptop each day to work, so I know how you feel. A backpack could hurt your back and damage your spine, so I don’t think this is a good solution.

Instead, use a rear rack with panniers to transport everything, from laptop to groceries for dinner.
